The Allergy Skin Prick Test is a quick and reliable test used to identify sensitization to specific substances which can cause allergy symptoms.
This test is performed on the forearm or upper back. Very small amount of the allergen solution is placed on the skin and a small scratch or prick is made through it. The reaction is observed after 15 minutes. The allergen enters beneath the skin through the scratch and triggers an immune response in a person who is sensitised to it. Positive response is seen as a reddish bump/hive with/without itching which is measured after 15 minutes.
